Quite crowded, but the employees still take time to make suiting recommendations (e.g. sauces etc.).
Good quality and moderate prices.

One of my favourite restaurants in Norway. Delicious freshly caught fish cooked in a variety of local styles and dishes. Well worth trying and very reasonably priced!

One of the must eat foods in Norway is fish soup and fishcakes. Upon local recommendations, I came to Sostrene Hagelin which is known as the place to eat fish cakes, fish balls and fish pudding - Norwegian style.

For lunch I had the fishcakes in brown sauce (79 NOK) as well as the fishsoup (47 NOK for a small). The fish cakes were light and had a bouncy texture. The brown sauce (gravy) was flavorful but not too heavy. It paired well with the tyttebær (lyngon berry preserve) and scallions on the fish cakes. The side of veggies included diced potatoes, carrots & celery-root. They were soft but not mushy and tasted fresh.

The fish soup was thick and hearty and in addition to carrots and celery, it even had small pieces of fish cake in it.

I think I ate a little too much as I saw many locals just come in and get the large fish soup for lunch. Definitely a filling meal and so incredibly worth the price, especially when travelling on a budget - forget the fish market and come here for a more economical meal.

Really good food! It seems like a place where locals eat, so that's a good sign! Very good prices!
