Canada Cement quarry at Point Anne. This very ancient Bobcaygeon limestone is about 453 million years old. The Atlantic Ocean is 1/3 as old. It sits on top of 1.2 billion year old granite. Despite the age of the limestone, earth was 90% of it's present age when it was laid down. There is 750 million years of missing geological histroy between the granite and limestone, it was a period of errosion. There is 450 million years of missing geological history on top of this hard limestone.
Canada LaFarge Cement quarry at Point Anne. Ancient Bobcaygeon limestone has been ground up for aggregate and sorted by size. They won't dig any deeper, they do not want to go below Lake Ontario water level for fear of flooding. The area to the right has been scrapped bare and prepared for blasting. You can see the fleet of barges at their docks at the other end of the quarry in the satellite photo.
