Former railway bed and bridge base (on left) built for the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR) in 1855 from Montreal to Toronto. Taken over by CN in 1923, and abandoned in 1958 when the St.Lawrence Seaway flooded much of the tracks in this area. The railway moved further inland.

The Iroquois Dam, located in Massena, New York. The Iroquois Dam is located upstream of the international Robert Moses-Robert H. Saunders Power Dam and regulates the outflow from Lake Ontario into the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the level of Lake St. Lawren

The purpose of that thin strip of land is no longer obvious. Until 1959 the Galop Canal ran on this side of it for canal boats running between Montreal and the Great Lakes, while the Long Sault rapids roared on the other side. The St.Lawrence Seaway flooded the rapids in 1958 making the river suitable for ocean going vessels.

Galop Canal in Cardinal built in 1847. Used for canal boats up to 57 m. long, until the St.Lawrence Seaway was built in 1959 allowing ocean boats up to 225 m. long, into the Great Lakes. Ocean going vesels could now navigate up to 3,700 km. (2,300 mi.) inland. Looking east.
