Best Mexican food in Savannah. Authentic. Very friendly staff. Atmosphere could use a lift - kinda sterile/cold - hate the mirrors everywhere, but because the management and staff are so nice, you forget you're eating in the mirror! If you like it spicy, and let's face it, if you like Mexican, that's why, try the green salsa, it's like no other. Also, the tamales are to die for. Everything I've tried there has been Damn good! No alcohol there though; this place is about the food, not the beer. Come here to get your grub on, not your buzz on. mmmm good.

Fantastic tamales and the service is great. It's a family owned and operated place with freshly made food and non of the crappy stuff from a can or frozen things that you find at the chain restaurants.

We have eaten here at least once a week for months now and NEVER have we had a bad meal. I cannot say this about any other restaurant in Savannah and I am known for being hard to please. The food at La Xalapena is fresh, honest, simple, spectacular. It's extraordinarily UNDERpriced. Two people can be STUFFED for 25$ including tip. They do not serve alcohol, but that's not why you came here; you came for the food. If you want crappy margaritas and greasy, sub par Mexican, then go to those...other places. If you like spice, please don't forget to ask for a selection of their house made salsas. The jalapeno and avocado salsa is 100% addicting. Please give them a try and give them business! We need La Xalapena in Savannah. Best of luck to them!!
