One of the best parks in the city. Because it's situated in a valley, you really don't feel like you're in the city. I've heard coyotes howling in the park.

My favorite urban hike. High rock walls, and trees on the lower trails, hide the city and create a wilderness environment - with Muni stops at both ends.

Gorgeous setting for a wide variety of outdoor & indoor recreational activities for all ages. It has the only indoor climbing wall in San Francisco Parks. During the school year there is a coop preschool held here. The same facility also does double duty in the summer as a day camp. The fields are used for softball games for kids as well as adults, There also soccer games for young kids held here. The tennis courts here are very popular. People bring their dogs for off leash romps and walk or hikes on the various trails thru out the canyon that forms a part of the park. As if that weren't enough, during the summer the meadow in the park hosts the San Francisco Mime Troop for shows. There is a newly renovated recreation center where diffferent types classes for people of various ages are held & there are basketball courts which double as performance & meeting spaces. It is indeed a one of the best parks in the city!

As a Glen Park local and regular at G.P Canyon, I love to hike with my pup in the morning with my cup of coffee. There are coyotes, so if you have a tiny dog its an absolute must to leash them while on trails through the trees. You'll risk your tiny dogs life if you fail to be observant and aware of your dogs protection. Its happened a few times where coyote have snatched peoples dogs for food. Its sad, but these coyote are only trying to survive through the loss of their homes. So keep your loved one safe.
Aside from this. Its a little bit country atmosphere in the middle of a metropolitan city. Fantastic vista points and great place for kids to play.

This park is amazing. I've been in the SF Bay Area for years, and I just discovered it today.
Hiking trails are easy to follow and offer beautiful views. The park is a geologic goldmine. Beautiful wildflowers and huge rock outcroppings everywhere. And there's even a stream running through.
If you're interested in seeing FANTASTIC geologic examples of the Franciscan Melange, you'll find plenty here.
Tourists and locals alike should visit this beautiful urban park. Were it not for the amazing San Francisco views you'd forget you were in the middle of a crowded city.
