Place was closed when I walked by, but I'm sure it's cool to checkout.

It's a giant UFO-looking water treatment machine (or something: feel free to come up with your own crackpot theory) that's all lit up and gorgeous in a tranquil little cut of the river just before the I Street Bridge. Bicyclists come flying through there, so beware in low light. Great place to take photos late at night, great place to meander while holding hands with someone you dig.

This is a primary intake for Sacramento municipal water. Everyone who drinks water from the tap should walk out to the intake and contemplate where their water comes from. The intake is downstream from the confluence of the Sacramento River, with headwaters near Mount Shasta, and the American River, with headwaters at the Sierra Nevada crest. The water quality is usually good, but there are times of year when it has a swamp water taste.

This is a great outdoor place for a scenic picnic with wide open spaces for family activities. Unfortunately there is a large transient population present almost always.
