Fast friendly service. Better to order in person, but if you decide to call, be sure to check the menu and have the order ready to go. The owner takes the calls and can be hard to understand over the phone. Best Chinese fast food in Redding.

Where do I start? My wife and I have been customers of New China Rest for as long as they have been in business at their present location. It saddens me to write this review of what once was the best Chinese food available in Redding and the staff are wonderful people that do their best to give great service. The past 6 months to maybe even a year or so the quality has gone downhill. The last meal we decided to order out. We ordered Pork Fried Rice that was anything but. Was not fried rice ti was more like colored white rice with a few pieced of egg and peas and just enough Soy sauce base to color it tan. Dry and flavorless. The Egg Foo Young patties were: “half” the size they once were. The three little patties filled only half the carton the rest was packed with Broccoli. Somehow these people think we all love Broccoli. The Chicken Chow Mien was chicken and noodles that taste much like many other things they have on the menu. Coming from Bay Area we are very much in tune with good Chinese food. Chow Mien is supposed to have Bean Sprouts and Water Chestnuts and other things. This was just noodles.. Bottom line it seems they are trying to makes these dishes healthier sacrificing flavor. Chinese food is like Ice Cream in that it is supposed to be “Evil” Don’t mess with it, just make it taste good. We don’t eat it but a half dozen times a year but unless another restaurant or New China goes back to the old ways of cooking it will be far less times this coming year.

We eat here several times a month. Excellent service, great food, friendly staff. Less expensive than cooking at home. We always take home enough for at least one more meal. Hot tea is complimentary, the dinner combos come with soup, egg roll and rice. Our favorite place in town!
