Amazing sushi. Tough to get reservation but there is a good reason.

Why I went: We wanted some good sushi. My mom is Japanese.

Parking: Only street parking is available

The food: There is a set nigiri (thinly sliced fish on top of pressed vinegared rice) list made for each night. There is no picking and choosing what you want or don't want -- you eat everything the sushi chef serves you. The sushi chef tells you where you are going to sit and then from the closets seat to the furthest determines who he serves first. And know that he will be serving you in that order the rest of the night. There are certain manners and rules to follow, or they will kick you out. No phones are allowed and be somewhat quiet. This is not your typical restaurant. It may seem harsh, but it's a sign of respect which is big in Japan. I would know (my mom).
At the end, you can order more of the nigiri sushi that you liked liked, or dessert. And yes, that's how the bills turns out to be nearly $250.

The place: It is confined space but that's because it's meant to be private and intimate. There are only 8 seats total. It's a typical size for any sushi bar in Japan.

The customer service: Very nice and helpful. Sometimes you don't noticed the waitress (I think his sushi) because she's so quiet.

Reservations: You have to make a reservation. There are no walk-I s. And they ONLY take in-person reservations and you have to be the first out of 16 people for that day to save your spot. There are two dinner settings: one at 7pm and one at 9pm. Each dinner setting seats 8 people total.

Price: Know that there is a set price of $75 per person minimum. But it is WELL WORTH IT.

What I like: Everything! Literally. I was scared to try the green tea creme brûlée, but it was amazing! I also love the fact that this is family run! The father is the sushi chef, the wife is the waitress, and the son is in the back helping. I think there is another daughter too but I can't remember exactly.

Will I ever go back again: Yes! I highly recommend this place. Don't sleep on it.

Oh wow, what an experience. Managed to snag a seat with my wife on a week night, last two seats. It wasn't just amazing food, it was a total experience about the history of sushi, how cuts are made, how certain sakes are made, etc. Can only afford to go rarely, but am so glad I made it. Chez Panisse of sushi.

the place is really good...if you can afford it.

I been there once with a friend in 2014. It cost us $220. I was still hungry after we were done.

It's set course dinner. so the chef serve you everything on the menu for that night. menu changes everyday. so the bill is not the same every time. you can order extra pieces after the set course if finished.

you have to be there in person to get reservation. they start taking reservation at 12. they only serve 2 rounds of ten customers a day. starting from 5pm (or 6, don't remember) to 7, then 7 to 9. so 2 hours a round.

I would rate it 5 stars if it's not so pricy or if I am rich enough to eat there regularly.

Best sushi in the Bay Area! Have some courtesy for your fellow eaters and the restaurant by bringing only even numbers of people with you. Often times I see an empty seat because someone has a party of 3.
