If you can swing it financially, I highly recommend taking classes here. I've been to classes by 5 or so instructors here, and all were top notch. I took a really fun, challenging vinyasa, several Forrest Yoga classes (a whole different approach to posture for me, with an emphasis on opening up and really lifting the chest and keeping the toes wide), and one or two Yin yoga classes (very challenging, requiring long periods in one pose). The Forrest classes are done *slightly* warm (not hot), which I thought I would hate, but it helped keep me limber and focused.

They sometimes offer free Forrest courses during their training periods. Well worth checking out.

I disagree with all of the negative reviews on this site. I have been practicing yoga for over 12 years and have attended Fresh for about 8. There is no studio in the country like Fresh. I have 4 teacher trainings under my belt and have been to many studios in Manhattan, Florida (where I was when I started yoga) and all over CT. Fresh is the only studio with such a diversity of teachers, styles, and classes. I unfortunately moved further from New Haven than I'd like to be, but will still not go anywhere else. Even if it means doing more yoga on my own. Classes here are not formula, teachers come from all different walks of life, and the atmosphere is just "real." if you want music, you can get music; if you don't, plenty of classes have no music. Heat: we got it. No heat... that's available too. whether its vinyasa, yin, or hatha, you can find it here. Good yoga is expensive, but I'd rather pay $20 for one great class than $20 for 5 crappy ones in uncomfortable environments.

If you don't expect much, you will not be disappointed in Fresh. A few teachers are good, most are average. You will practice yoga here, but you will not deepen or refine it. No teacher provides physical corrections or extensive tips on alignment, positioning, etc. Most do the same each session each time, with little variation or creativity. And they have an unkind policy on class cards--no matter how good the reason if you don't use them by expiration date, you lose them--no exceptions. The two locations make Fresh attractive but it is a distant second to the other major studio in town--Breathing Room

I have found Fresh Yoga to be a "full service" yoga studio. They offer classes in many different types of yoga styles. This allows me to learn from different modalities of practice in order to better myself. I like the fact that there are always special events going on, which feature many nationally recognized instructors. The staff of instructors are the best in the area. If you take time to talk with them, you would find they have themselves been practicing for many years. I like thisthey can help me meet my challenges in my own practice because they have many of their own experiences from which to draw upon to help me.

I believe there is no place in the New Haven metropolitan area that can offer such a wide variety and a consistent high quality level of instruction. This is the place I choose to develop mind, body and spirit.

I have been practicing yoga for almost 20 years now (7 years at Fresh) and travel an hour and fifteen minutes each way to attend weekly classes there. This past year, at 61, I have successfully rehabbed a full hip replacement under the guidance of Heidi Sormaz, owner and teacher at Fresh. Heidi handpicks her instructors based on her own high standards of experience, skill and dedication to the practice. At Fresh Yoga you will learn to breathe through challenging, interesting classes that are safe at every level. If you are looking to deepen your practice, mindfully, and expand yourself, I highly recommend trying Fresh. In my opinion it is the best yoga studio in CT.
