The building is amazing. Location is gorgeous. Their permanent exhibits are first rate of items and artists you might be unfamiliar with. I saw some painters i never heard of but wanted to know more about.

I regretfully reward the MAM with a sad 2 out of 5 paint brushes. They had a couple really great pieces, but I’m sorry, the shaggy dog just isn’t what I’m there for. The building is like walking into the grand Titanic before launch. Elegant shapes and sleek, memorable design, but when you focus too much on being modern and fancy, you’re bound to hit an iceberg and sink. I don’t care what old dead lady owned that room full of stuff, I care about the stuff. I don’t care about the essay with a visual aide, I care about the feelings I get from the visual side. The entire experience felt like walking through the hall of Gaston and I am definitely more like Belle.

I visited the Milwaukee Art Museum on a Thursday night in September when the museum had evening hours. It was very quiet and there weren't a lot of people there, which made it an optimal time to explore. On the first Thursday of the month, the Art Museum is free to visit for all patrons. Street parking can be difficult on weekends and busier times of the weekday but I generally find something. There is a paid parking lot attached the museum but I opt for the cheaper parking and tend to walk. The art museum itself is beautiful and I love the design of Calatrava.

The ever-changing exhibits are exciting and I love to see what's new. There was a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit open when I visited and it was very interesting to see his work (especially in how it is present still in Midwestern architecture).

I have also been here for Art Museum yoga on Saturday mornings (once a month) and watching the sunrise and reflect vibrant colors off the lake is an epic must-do!

While this is a pretty unique museum, of the three times I have been there sadly enough I'm yet to see the wings in action. If this is why you are going good luck. Wind is a critical factor, "too windy" and they will not open them. Maybe they should have thought about that before building it at the lake front. I'm sure they could hire a capable engineer to fix the issue. Anyway, the wings supposedly open at 10am, noon, and before closing. The art within is nothing to brag about but they do have a several pieces worth looking at. Enjoy!

So much variety of art! I like how there's an audio guide for hundreds of artwork. I spend a lot of time exploring this place. The Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit was informative and also had audio guides. Staff was helpful.

The only complaint I had was the parking wasn't free and could get pricey by the hour.
