Always stop at Lake City Sonny's when in area and had always been good. But yesterday I was disappointed ordered half chicken and it was light brown in color clearly not smoked, but appeared to be baked or broiled no smoked flavor as it always does. My wife had baby back ribs and said they too had no smoked flavor.

Allow me to preface this with, I'm from Texas. I grew up on bbq, so my opinion may be a bit biased. I ordered the sampler plate which consisted of pork ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork & moist brisket. I had potato salad & baked bbq beans as sides.
The brisket came really moist. There was a lot of rendered fat which took away from the flavor, I think. There was a nice pink smoke ring. There wasn't a good bark on my slices, and it seemed lost with the rendered fat. I've had better, but I've also had far worse.
The pork ribs also had a nice smoke ring, but lacked in flavor, and seemed a bit dry. I didn't think the sauce was all that special.
The pulled pork was very well done. Had a wonderful flavor. The restaurant really sells their pulled pork, and I see why.
I thought the smoked chicken was the best of my meal. Wonderful smoked flavor, great texture and taste in the meat.
The potato salad tasted like store bought, but the bbq beans were pretty tasty.
All in all, not bad. The atmosphere is very nice, the wait staff were super friendly and attentive. The place was crowded, which means the locals enjoy it so that says something.
Again, my opinion is likely highly biased to the bbq I have back home. If the chance arises, I'll likely eat here again.

Sony's BBQ in Lake City, FL is right up there on my list with the one in Dublin, GA, which is my measure of the best.
At Lake City,our waitress, Mallori, was both professional and personable. She did a great job in a very pleasant manner.

This was our first food stop driving from Orlando to Northern Indiana. I use these ratings and reviews to choose where I stop when I travel. My own rule is to never stop off at a place below 4 stars and this place had 4.3... a safe bet.
Sonny's is a southern chain and this location exceeded my expectations. When walking in the front door there's a bar to sit down and eat. It's very clean and seems new. We ordered brisket and pulled pork sandwiches with fries. Our soda and sweet tea came out fast with our food right behind it. The sandwiches were very good and fries cooked perfect. I also got a cornbread muffin that was soft and tasty.
Combine the great food, fast service and an extremely friendly waitress (receipt says her name was Miranda) makes this a great find on our trip home.

Picked up some Sonny's for the drive back to TN. pretty surprising that two chopped brisket sandwiches & an order of redneck egg rolls, no drinks or sides, came to $24. The egg rolls were explained as having pulled pork, cheese, cole slaw and sauce inside but all I found within the greasy fried wrap was a little meat. I haven't tried the sandwich yet, I need to wait for my stomach to settle first. Edit: finally opened up the sandwiches to put sauce on before eating, so glad I did! Half of the contents were blobs of fat, the buns and even the outsides of containers were covered in grease. I can't imagine how any one putting together this order could possibly think this is okay. Review went from three stars to two. I need a bath. And an antacid. AND a refund.
