I was watching football games I didn't care about, the wife was sleeping in, and realized I just needed to get out for some fresh air. I didn't want to take all day, but I didn't want a stroll either. Makiki Valley was perfect. I live in town so it's nearby, and it's less than 3 miles but 1000 foot elevation change. There's a 1-mile side loop so I did that too. I've done the 6+ mile loop, but that's more commitment than I had in me today. Since I didn't get an early start, it rained. Felt refreshing, but i was glad I brought a change of shoes and shirt. Got home in time to see the highlights of the games I didn't care about.

There are several trails that branch off and someone new may get lost. Use Argus or trail tracker just to be safe. The Makiki trail is approx. 3 mile hike. Easy if fit and may be difficult for those not use to hiking in Hawaii. Beautiful maintained trail.

I live by here and I do this hike all the time. Its pretty fun with lots of choices for different distances. You can go for the loop or even for Round Top/Tantalus park.

nice shady trails but definitely can let you work out a good sweat if you hike up to the top!! good for age 10 to 70.
