Consistently fantastic burgers. As close to a sure bet as there is, i.e. you will nearly always have a great meal (I've probably been there 50+ times).

Good food, but very slow service, even though it wasn't very busy. Server didn't take order until 25 minutes after being sat. Server didn't check on us until we were done with our food. All the while the wife and son of what appeared to be the manager sat next to us and was waited on constantly. Other tables commented as well. The manager sat with them several times, but never once made eye contact with any other table. The staff needs a lesson in customer service.

Been here many times, manager at the door always polite. Goat cheese dip, caesar salad are so delicious. Always start out with. For the burger i either get the fun guy or fatty melt both my favorites

I had the Max burger. The burger was outstandingly cooked, with good sauce. The fries were good. They accomodated my food allergy. I liked it, really good!
My one nit pick is that it could have had just a tad more salt on the burger. For the restaurant Max is... and the incredible competition across town... these little points are the difference between good and perfect. Other than that, flawless.

Small tap list, but always something interesting. Bartenders always friendly, yet professional. Tuna poke and cauliflower apps were outstanding. Burgers, as the name suggests, wonderful.
The (enormous) grilled cheese sandwich with thick tomato soup / dip is one of the best deals in metro Hartford.
West Hartford is finicky about sitting on the patio and just having alcohol without buying a meal, but there are bar seats that are practically outside in nice weather.
