This is/was my absolute favorite place to get cajun food. I'm extremely sad to see it closed and hope it's only temporary. The great taste and unique flavors of J. Gumbo's cannot be found anywhere else. Please come back to us!

Taste is pretty good, however it doesn't taste truly Cajun. Service was great.

The food here IS authentic. Any one who says different doesn't know what they are talking about. The food is absolutely delicious. I would eat here every single meal if I could. The employees are great and the owner really does care about his customers and his employees.
If you don't like spicy food they have a delicious alternative for you, the Bourbon Street Chicken. My personal favorite is the Bumblebee stew and the Drunken Chicken. SO GOOOOOOOD.
Must try it at least a few times. They also let you sample the food before hand so you can find the perfect meal option. This place is a ten out of five.
Also, you can add shrimp or crawfish to your gumbo if you want to. And there are at least five shrimp put into every half order and I believe there is at least 8 put in each full order. That seems to be more than enough considering all of the rest of the main dish and the rice they put in.
As far as the size of the dishes they serve a huge amount of food and the low cost of the food is well worth it.

I get the Voodoo Chicken over white rice to go for work on a regular basis because they serve it quick and it has great longevity for freshness if I get busy while I am eating. Nice and spicy, but still easy to handle if you want to add more of your own hot sauce. Also have a rewards card that comes in handy for frequent users.
