I grew up with authentic Italian food, love to eat Italian cuisine and cook it myself. We went out last night and decided to give "The Florentine" a try. I can honestly say it was the worst Italian food I have eaten in my entire life -and I am around since a while. The dishes are overpriced -considering the neighborhood- and I assume that's the only reason why some people -who don't know Italian food -give this restaurant 5 stars. "If it's expensive it has to be good." Well, it's not!
The" homemade" pasta is tasteless and not cooked "al dente" but totally undercooked. The Marina sauce is dull and tasteless -no finesse at all. The American Alfredo sauce is not creamy but tastes like flour. I ate a few bites of the Seafood Alfredo and felt like I had just swallowed a cup of raw flour. My husband tried the Chicken liver, and it was as bad. Overfried, too crispy and dry, instead of moist and soft.
It's the first time in my life that I insisted on not leaving a tip. We let half of the food go back, didn't take the leftover with us -our dogs deserve better.
$37 thrown out of the window. We would have been better of ordering a pizza from a chain.

The only reason I went here was because of the good reviews, I was fooled. This is not an Italian experience I want to ever have again. I ordered the combination platter and a salad. The salad came straight out of the bag from the grocery store. The house dressing was very oily and had no taste. The combination platter comes with ravioli, spaghetti, and rigatoni. It was literally a plate of three different types of noodles smoothered with plain canned tomato sauce. The noodles stuck together and were very under cooked. The food is way over priced for the quality. I suggest you go a few blocks down to spaghetti warehouse for Italian food.

Absolutely the best Italian food in the US. I was raised on the homemade spaghetti and sauce. I live hundreds of miles from there now, but still make it a point to stop anytime we are in Columbus. I sure miss Uncle Joe! (That's only for us older folks!) If you haven't been there, try the homemade spaghetti with sauce and meatballs or mushrooms. If you like garlic, the Italian salad with the house dressing is to die for! Thank you for over 50 years of fantastic food and memories. See you soon! Judy
