I booked an appointment on 9/23/17 for a partial highlight and cut for my wife on her birthday on Groupon. We drove 2 hours to get to this salon. We finally find a parking and paid $18. As we were parking, I get a call 15 minutes before the appointment stating they had to cancel because the associate was sick. After a few minutes on the phone trying to find another time, the Associate on the phone hung up the phone because she had to check a customer out. She stated she was going to call me back after she got done checking out the customer. I waited 15 minutes for a call back and got nothing so I called back. The same Associate picked up the phone and I told her I was same customer calling back about the cancelled appointment. She then goes on to tell me she doesn't know of any cancelled appointments and then magically she remembers. Like WHAT?!?!?! YOU JUST CALLED ME TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT! At this time, I was longer interested in rebooking another time so I requested a full refund to which she said yes could issued a refund. She goes on to say she will issue it, and I will get a confirmation number in the email. Once she is done, she will call me back and let me know. Today is now 9/26/17, 2 FULL DAYS and I have not received a single call or email about the refund.
If I could give a ZERO Star I would. Extremely unprofessional! DONOT DRIVE 2 HOURS TO THIS SALON BECAUSE THEY MIGHT CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT AND THEN LEAVE YOU IN THE DARK.
Update:
I called thomas west and was told by a new associate I had to call Groupon to get my refund no questions asked. So i call groupon and they start asking why my booking was cancel. I was then told there was a 3 day window to get my full refund. Now I have to wait another 24-72 hours to hear back from a specialist about getting my full refund.

Brenna is a truly awesome colorist and stylist. As a natural dark brunette, my hair has been growing in nearly all white and she has managed to give me the most beautiful natural shade of sun kissed blonde hair! Go see her for all of your color dreams! ❤

Always a terrific experience. Up to date facilities, friendly staff, and don't be surprised to see the owner ringing up at the register. No absentee management here.

I am very happy with Thomas West Salon on the second floor of the Merchandise Mart. I moved downtown from the suburbs in August 2016, and needed a new hair stylist to cut my hair. The first thing I discovered was that most downtown salons are significantly more expensive than suburban salons - many charging $85 to $95 for a simple man's haircut, which, in my world, is crazy. The Thomas West Salon is significantly more reasonable-- charging about $50. I was referred to Monica as my stylist. I could not be happier. Monica does an exellent job, while being friendly, professional and engaging. I highly recommend the Thomas West Salon, and particularly Monica.

I first discovered this salon when walking thru the Mart after just moving to River North from NW suburbs. I already had a salon in the suburbs that I went to; but needed highlights before leaving for a trip. That's when I found Sara!! She listened to what my concerns were; and discussed that it would take some time to get it back to the color/balance I wanted and she nailed it! I've been going to her for almost 3 years now.
When I lost my job and was sick this year; I had to space out my appointments budget wise. I came in one day to get highlights done before an interview and she hadn't known yet what had happened. After sharing with her what was going on and that I only had the budget to do some highlights; she immediately said no I'm giving you the whole package. She didn't have to do this but rearrange her schedule to allow time to give me full highlights, cut and style at my budget as a one time deal. I was in tears once she was done. She made me feel better and looking great for my interview and there for me when I was going through rough times.
The salon is always busy but they do take walk ins. While I mainly go to Sara; I can say the rest of the staff are nice, friendly and really enjoy their jobs. The people here not only care about their clients; they do outstanding work!
