One of the great classic Chicago restaurants. Insane steaks and pasta. A bucket list item.

My husbands and I favorite place while visiting in Chicago, so enjoy the small atmosphere the cramped space and the wonderful service from The Host. We own a very small Italian restaurant in Colorado and it sure made us feel good to see how many people love this environment. Their red sauce is absolutely out of this world and trust me this will be my first stop when I come back!

No. Just. No. It's a great old mob place... or not. It's just an old dump serving terrible steak at the highest price in town. Tender, but no seasoning except a thick charcoal crust. Plate of sliced/fried potatoes which could NOT be substituted out for anything else. But don't worry, those sides are just at tasteless. Credit given to the soup. It was a great start. A real life lie. Just like this place. Oh, can I mention that a patron walked in cussing about some guy outside the restaurant who is standing guard. Oh man. That place is genuinely not an actual restaurant. If I turn up dead, it's because of this review.

My boyfriend and I were visiting Chicago and wanted a good steak dinner. We tried other steakhouses but they were booked. We made a reservation at 8pm for Gene and Georgetti. When we arrived we were given complimentary valet parking, which was great. We went into the restaurant and it was packed. There was no host at the door so we waited to see if anyone would come so we could confirm that we had arrived. After a few minutes no one came, so we asked the bartender. He pointed past the end of the bar and stated that's where the hostess was. We gave our name to her to confirm our appointment and waited to be called. It was a few minutes past 8 when we were called to a table. I noticed on the wall the occupancy for the restaurant on the wall was low compared to the amount of people jammed in there. We were taken upstairs and seated. We checked out the menu and decided to get the t-bone steak for two, and some garlic mashed potatoes (severely overpriced). The waiter brought us some cold bread and butter, which was fine. He told us that our steak would come with a salad to share and some potato skins. He brought out our salads and as we were eating my boyfriend felt something stab his cheek, which is the piece of wood pictured. They brought our steak (Medium rare) which was cooked correctly temperature wise, but was incredibly charred on the outside. The steak would have been better with seasonings, or at least some steak sauce. The Garlic mashed potatoes were okay, but not my favorite. The potato skins tasted burnt. The ranch I had requested for the potato skins was gelatinous like store bought ranch. We had requested a box and a check and the waiter came by twice asking if we wanted dessert, which we stated we just wanted out check so we could leave. I told my boyfriend I was going to use the restroom before we left. I get downstairs and the women's bathroom was completely out of order so I had to wait for the men to get out so I could use the men's. Luckily the valet was quick. We were quite disappointing with the experience overall. I would not recommend.
