I just ended a call with a customer service representative from Vantage. I requested to not receive any mailings: I receive at least one large glossy magazine each week. The representative attempted to "explain away" why I was receiving these rather than provide any help whatsoever. He then proceeded to yell at both my husband and I when we became insistent he take some action about the excessive mailings. Needless to say I will NEVER use Vantage to book a trip to the corner store much less any travel. I am beyond angry at the treatment I received.

My mom and her friend had a trip to US National (Grand Canyon) parks booked for October. In mid-Sept (!) the agent emailed only my mom that the trip was cancelled, never informed her travel companion. Claims the hotels all overbooked and there were no rooms for them? Translation: the incompetence of the booking agent probably who didn't remember to book their rooms for the trip when they bought it! She never got an apology and had to fight to get her money back plus the travel insurance. The other woman never got any apology at all. VERY poor service. NEVER go to these people. Not even a single word of apology for ruining all their plans for this wonderful trip.

Heartless, cold company. Keep mailing me invites from my dead parents even after numerous requests to stop.

June 2015 we booked and paid in full, that Sept 2015, for a deluxe top floor cabin 14 day trip on the Rhine, Maine, Danube. 10 days before we left in Sept 2016. They called and said they over booked the ship and we would be given a partial refund but would now have a low level near windowless room.We paid and booked a room we desired a year in advance. And they called 10 days before we left! Telling us the room we booked was not available! Do Not Trust this companyn with your money. They lack reservation relieability. Karen

Warning, this could be your experience if you purchase a Vantage Deluxe World Travel cruise:
In September I booked a Travelzoo special on a Vantage Danube cruise for this coming April 2017. The only way I could get the special deal was to pay in full over the phone via automatic debit from my checking account. Despite feeling sketched out, I went ahead and made the purchase. I didn't want to miss out on such a great deal.
So, I get a call from a Vantage customer service representative a month later telling me that my cruise had been cancelled because the ship needs repairs. He told me I had a choice of either taking the same cruise a YEAR later in April 2018 or receive $250 pp toward a different cruise. Problem is, I'd already booked the flights to Europe. I was assured that if I booked a different cruise or if I took the 2018 cruise, the airline flight change/cancellation fees would be reimbursed to me.
At first, I thought maybe I could wait a whole 18 months to take my vacation. I later realized that waiting that long for a vacation is not acceptable. However, I was assured by the Vantage representative that I should be able to find another special in 2017 that would be comparable in price to my original booking. Just check the website, he says.
A few days later my traveling partner called the Vantage representative back and asked about several other cruises that looked to be suitable substitutes for the cruise we paid for. All were sold out or substantially more expensive than the Travelzoo special, even with the $250 pp credit. We then requested a refund and were told by the Vantage representative that we could no longer receive reimbursement for the airline flight change/cancellation fees, but we might write a letter to management about it. This was weeks ago. Our refund for the cruise has still not arrived.
I booked the cruise in September. I was first notified about the cruise cancellation at the end of October. It is now approaching the end of November.. According to the Vantage Deluxe World Travel Tour Participation Agreement, "If the tour is canceled by Vantage for any reason, Vantage shall have no liability beyond the PROMPT refund of all tour participants’ payments received by it.". Note the word "prompt". The dictionary definition of the word prompt is "done, performed, delivered, etc., at once or without delay." I have now experienced an almost month long delay in getting a refund.
This is not what I call care or meeting one's legal obligations. I am not a bank, and I do not issue loans. However Vantage Deluxe World Travel seems to think I am. They have now used my money for about 2 months, all interest free. It did not take 30 days for Vantage to receive payment for a cruise that they can not provide to me. It took them 2 days. I think I am entitled to the same time consideration in getting my money back.
And it could be so much worse. I could've paid full price. I could've let them keep my money interest free until 2018. My advice to anyone considering a seemingly great deal on a Vantage cruise is to heed the saying, "if something seems to good to be true, it usually is". Know that you may have your money taken from you for 2 months (or longer!), and that you may or may not get what you thought you paid for using your hard earned money. And always use a credit card when making prepaid travel arrangements. Credit card companies have more attorneys than Vantage does.
