If you are looking for an excellent art class, you'll find it at Red Dot. Dori teaches you with a one on one approach while also instructing a class of 8-12 painting and drawing students. I have taken her drawing class. She was very attentive and developed, in me, a much stronger skill set. I worked on a new skill each week. She had me practice new things I have never known before. I never knew I could be so good at drawing!

I was looking for a new hobby to do after work and found oil painting classes offered during the day and at night. I signed up for the 6 week set of classes, along with the starter paint kit. I have taken the 6 classes with Dori and have enjoyed every time. I look forward to class and I even plan to continue. I highly recommend if you are looking to learn or expand your oil painting, drawing, or pottery skills. The mix of one-to-one and group teaching method is pleasant. The knowledge and guidance to learn, along with the independence to flourish your own style. A small and unique nitch which enhances Homewood.

I have worked at Red Dot, shown my work there, and taken classes from both Dori and Scott. Over the years I have watched hundreds of students learn skills and develop talents they never thought possible, all in an environment of enthusiasm and support. Dori and Scott are patient and encouraging, but offer as much challenge and detailed instruction as the student can handle. Each student gets individualized instruction at a level found in universities. And even the timid newcomer with zero experience feels like they are being taught at their level. As for the gallery, the work exhibited is that of Dori, Scott, and their students. Shows rotate often with accessible, skilled work.

I signed up for oil painting classes in 2010 as a beginner, never having touched oils. Interested in challenging myself with a creative outlet, I joined a class with students of all levels and to this day, continue to attend weekly. Dori's classes are welcoming, encouraging and fun! She is hands off but if you are a visual learner like me, she will jump in and guide you along the way. With a collection of pieces created over the past five years, I was honored to display my work in an eight week solo show at Red Dot Gallery! Jump in and join a class- you never know, you might have your own gallery show some day!

Red Dot Gallery has been around for years and is still a great place to learn how to paint! It’s a friendly environment that allows you to make friends with your classmates. Dori is an excellent teacher as well, very experienced and informative! And if painting is not your thing, then they also offer pottery classes. And Scott is just as great from what I hear! You also are able to display and sell your work if you develop a solid body of work, which is great if you want to get your work noticed. If you’re looking for a place to learn a new craft and to get further acquainted with your fellow classmates in the process, then Red Dot is definitely for you!
