Texican's green chile soup totally hit the spot on this chilly night. The chips n salsa are warm, the soup is hot, the price is right, and the service is top notch (even though I came in 20 minutes before closing 😬) @adventuresofgladysandporky

I am always a fan of Texicana Cafe. I recently moved up to North Austin and there is not one that is very close to me :(
We were hungry and in the South Austin area and decided to stop in because I know I can order a la carte items here.
I ordered a Cheese Chili Relleno a la carte with verde sauce. This is a favorite dish of mine in most Tex Mex places. There was a good amount of cheese and the verde sauce was perfection!
My daughter ordered a Cup of the Original Tortilla Soup and a Chicken Fajita Chimichanga a la carte. This is one of my favorite spots for both of these items. I love their soup and it comes with rice also and the Cup is good sized - the bowl is a full meal. The chimichanga is loaded with their yummy chicken fajita meat and comes smothered with their delicious queso. My daughter also liked her meal lol.
My husband had the Grilled Chicken Burger which he tends to order when we stop in. The chicken is well flavored and a generous size. The french fries are ok, nothing to brag about though in my opinion but he likes this dish and as he ordered it - that is how it should be.
They do no only offer Tex-Mex fare but also diner fare such as Burgers, Chicken Strips and Chicken Burgers with French Fries so there is something there for everyone. But - there Tex Mex is the reason I come back and it is after all considered a Tex Mex restaurant.
Their menu is extensive and they also serve breakfast. I have been to three different locations over the past years and their food is consistently good but their customer service is hit or miss - mostly I have had good customer service, once in a great while excellent customer service and sometimes not so good customer service. Their prices are decent for the food you get, I adore their chips and fresh salsa and their establishments are for the most part clean.
We will always be regulars at Texicana - love their Tortilla soup and chimichangas the most. Don't forget dessert also!

If you can get served, the food is great (giving 2 stars for the food, service gets -3 stars). This is the second time I have gone in and been seated by the host @ the Brodie Oaks (S. Lamar location) in the upper section and sat for 10 mins without so much as an acknowledgement from the waitress in that section. The first time I said something to the host and was served by the host the entire time, server got butt hurt for getting called out and gave me the stink eye each time she passed). The second time I asked for a manager and was offered a gift card. No thank you, I requeast ana ttentive wait staff. This happened, first time after 2pm, this time (2nd) it is after 4pm. There were 3 other tables occupied, inexcusable, and I get cranky and unforgiven when I'm hungry and evryone else gets service.

Texican Cafe has all the classic Tex-Mex comfort food and excellent service. We came in around closing time on a Saturday night and the place had a great vibe. Their prices are reasonable and they have daily specials, even on weekends. Go for the enchiladas! The beers are served in ice cold mugs and they have a good happy hour specials.

This is my favorite mexican restaurant. Great food and drinks. Wonderful people work at this Texican Cafe. Been going there for about 10 years. Just wonderful. Johnny is a very nice bartender. Mitch is one of the best guys I have ever met. New him when he was a waiter,now manager. Awesome Guy. Great place to to visit with friends and family. And meet new people.
