Good honest vets. Not like some other money grabbing vets in this area

I had an unsettling experience here 3 years ago which I realise is a long time ago, but at the same time, this vet made my cat more ill and I would hate for someone else to go through that. (I thought I had reviewed before but it seems not.) This was the first vet we tried in York. My elderly cat had been drinking a lot more than usual and thinking she needed a checkup anyway we took her in to see Tim. After an initial appointment, we were asked to return her for observation for a full day, after which he diagnosed her as having high blood pressure and put her on some tablets. She came out quite stressed out but we put this down to her being in a completely new environment for a long time and assumed this would have been factored in. However, after a couple of days she had started throwing up and we could see the tablets were coming up too. We booked in for a second appointment and Tim checked her over and willingly exchanged the pills and didn't charge us the extra, which was kind. A week later we all returned and he said her blood pressure hadn't gone down and that she would need to go on the original pills. When we asked if that would actually help as she wasn't managing to keep them down before, he just shrugged and asked us what we wanted to do. I can't remember what we even decided but we left anxious. We contacted a different vet and explained that we were just looking for a second opinion and to see if they knew of other pills we could try. It turned out it was a complete misdiagnosis (hence the sickness caused by the medication) and she actually had diabetes. They also kept her in for a full day and said that while her blood pressure was a little high initially, it came down to a normal level as she relaxed over the day so they attributed the high readings to stress. She is still going strong and is cured of the diabetes thanks to the other vets. I am sorry to write a negative review, but this was such a worrying experience for us; I hope the vet will take it on board and review his practice.

Rang out of hours service actually thought had wrong number when the call handler said 'hey' asked him if it was actually a vet bluntly said yes. Very rude shouldn't employ people to work in an industry with no compassion when some one has a severely ill animal. No help was made at all. In fact I would never take my animal there just how the way he was wouldn't trust it one bit.
