Spent a long weekend here, for my birthday treat from my husband arriving 20th October. Our room was nice and the hotel staff were friendly & helpful. Our only complaint was when we decided to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday evening for my birthday meal. We booked a table the previous night, when we arrived we were seated and given menus, then we were told that there was no lamb available (which we was both going to have) it isn't a vast menu so was surprised, so I then ordered pork from the specials and my husband chose fish & chips. Then the waitress came over for a second time looking embarrassed and said there was no pork available, there was nothing else I fancied so I settled for a steak and requested it well done. When our food eventually arrived my steak was burnt on the outside and raw inside, I returned this explaining that I had requested well done. I told my husband to eat his otherwise it would go cold, lucky I did, cause I waited for about another 20 minutes before receiving the same bit of steak which I had cut about back, and can honestly say it was one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. While waiting for my dinner I took the opportunity to go to reception to complain, the staff there were very helpful, and the duty manager did knock 50% off our food bill (although wish I had refused to pay anything for the steak) and thanked us for being so understanding. We felt sorry for the waitress (who we did tip) that seemed to be getting all the blame when it wasn't her fault the fault was the chef who remained in the kitchen the whole time. The rest of our stay was pleasant and the breakfast lovely. Would stay here again, just probably wouldn't eat in the restaurant.

Had a lovely stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good facilities everything needed was provided. The room was a bit tired but would still stay here again. Great location.

I stayed in the carriage house #61. While the main hotel may be nice, our room stunk of grease and mold. Very dated and wasn't really worth the high nightly rate. Shower was just a hand held shower sticking off the wall. Toliet was loose and wobbled when using. Mattress most likely hadn't been changed in years, very deep body impressions. Room also backed to a road that was busy and could here traffic plus people all night. Only saving grace was the location and breakfast.

Spent 2 nights here in early September, wish it had been longer, large clean room staff helpful friendly professional didn't use the restaurant but food from the bar was very good. Also very nice sitting area outside as we had lovely weather. Close to everything highly recommended and will visit again.

What a wonderful hotel. Our room was lovely and spacious and very well decorated. Located in the heart of York so no need to use the local transport. We also had a meal in the hotel which was fab. Amazing staff also. Visiting York, this is a must stay.
