Although it is a Marstons pub it has the feel of a local pub. The staff are friendly and the food is good.

A friend & I meet up here from time to time (maybe once a month) and are usually really happy with the food and service but on this occasion we were extremely disappointed. We arrived at 5.10 pm when there were very few people in there (5 or 6 - none of whom were waiting for food, we noticed) and ordered our starter & main course at 5.15pm. At 5.40pm we had to go and ask - politely - if we'd been forgotten (we thought that 25 mins to prepare garlic mushrooms was more than enough time, seeing as it wasn't at all busy). So someone went to go and see why it hadn't been brought out - she immediately came back out with it. The plate was very hot but we think it had been waiting for some time as the lettuce was all limp and shrivelled. We then had to go and ask again 20 minutes later at 6.05pm, if our main course was coming soon. Once again the barmaid came straight out of the kitchen with the food which had been ready and waiting. She was most apologetic that it hadn't already been brought to us - not that it was her fault as she was meant to be at the bar. What were the kitchen staff doing? Certainly not delivering our food! Good customer service? Only from the barmaid. Not going to return here in a hurry.

An all round pub that has suffered from a number of management changes. Right now it is on the up with a good manager, great selection of beers, a comprehensive menu for all tastes and a wonderful caring staff. Try it before you knock it. Past reputations are hopefully out of the window. Support your local and I don't think you will be disappointed.
