Been a member here for about 4 years now - it's ok. Equipment is rarely 'Out of Use' and when it is, it gets fixed pretty quickly. Annoying that the Treadmills/Bikes have TV's built into them so you can watch what you choose, but it seems there is a random handful of channels tuned into each one - so if you want to watch ITV you've got to try 3 or 4 machines until you find one that has ITV tuned in. The treadmills and bikes also had the internet/facebook/youtube Apps built into them which I thought was a really good idea...then they took them away which was odd! I can guess that people were probably abusing the internet access, but I'm sure some sort of restrictions could have been put on what can be accessed. I liked watching YouTube Videos while I was running, and it made me stay on the treadmill longer, so it's a shame!
It's, what I call, 'nicely busy' - as in, there are enough people in there to keep an energetic, gym-feel to the place, but not so busy that you're queuing up to use the equipment. Most of the equipment is new from the refurb a couple of years ago, but unfortunately that horrific green paint is here to stay since the staffs uniform now appears to match it.
The staff are constantly cleaning so I don't understand the complains about the place being dirty - unless they are talking about the changing rooms/shower/pool area. They are absolutely disgusting and though the staff do try to clean it, that area is beyond cleaning - it needs renovating quick! The lockers look like they've been there since the 1900's, and they've recently changed all the locks to these weird contactless things - so should have used this opportunity to rip them all out and put new ones in. As a member of around 4 years, I have never been there when it is so busy that all the (roughly) 200 lockers (just in the mens changing room) have been in use - so really they could have put new lockers in, about 50% wider and made it easier for people like me who turn up with a gym bag, towel, toiletries, swimming shorts, goggles, my coat, my work clothes to change into, spare (size 12!) shoes, etc. which at the moment I have to cram into one narrow locker and all come out creased!
The staff are alright - the PT's who stroll around the gym floor have their favourite members who they greet with high fives, gang signs, and half hug/chest bumps. I have no desire to be 'mates' with them, but when I do have a question about where a piece of equipment is, or some advice on what I'm doing, it'd be nice if I didn't feel like I was interrupting them chatting to their favourite members about six packs and dead lifts! The staff on Reception are friendly and greet you with a "Hello", but again, not a lot more than that - I'd think after being there for so long that I'd have 'got to know' at least one person, but they just aren't interested.
Overall, it's decent and probably worth the £28 a month - you won't get better for the same price or less, but it definitely needs the showers, changing room and toilets fully renovating, and the swimming pool needs at least a freshen up! They make an effort to keep technologically up to date with the TV's etc. in the treadmills and bikes, and recently put in the Skill Mill & Watt Bikes - just need the interior of the building to match the equipment. I do feel sorry for people when I see them turn up for a Spa Day as they are expensive and the only bits they will see is the horrible bit downstairs, not the modern gym. Can't comment on how good the actual treatments are though.
So, I'd join the gym - but wouldn't book a Spa day there as it isn't that nice!

Thia is a good gym that isnt too busy, the staff and friendly and helpful and the facilities are good but not what I would expect if I was paying for a full price membership. In my opinion it is rather tired and needs updating or even renovation to bring it up to the standard expected of this brand.

Old equipment , horrible bright green walls and really needs a clean. The changing rooms were bad, broken lockers and black mold in the showers. Also, they want a full month's notice even when you have a no commitment contract , really poor experience.

First time visit to Bannatyne for a massage and spa treatment. Friendly staff, clean and relaxing atmosphere.

I'm a member here, usually visit the one on queys street but they have two other places in the city centre and you can use any of it with one membership. It costs roughly £30 per month. I only use the pool facilities which is one of the best i've experienced in town. I can't say anything about the gym/classes and spa, but sure it does the job if you want to workout and also have extra options like swim or just relax in steam room and sauna.
