Julie's has been CLOSED since 2015 for refurbishments that ended up in huge delays and backwards and forwards with the architects. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO BOOK. You can verify this at the reservations page of Julie's website. It's been very sad to lose this local jewel. I cannot understand how some people continue to post reviews when it's been closed for such long time. Hope this was helpful.

A fun little rabbit-warren, serving, from memory, good-ish quality food. The staff-training could use a bit of a polish though. It must be hard to recruit and retain, but it does show here.
But if I have to hear the story about Sylvester Stallone on the snug one more time...

Julie's was recommended by a work college and I was sold on the description of it's 70's style vibe that the restaurant has going on. So we booked ourselves in - a group of 10 - for an evening meal in one of the private rooms downstairs.
Honestly? While I can see that a place would like to hold on to what made it so charming back in the day, it just makes it feel dated and tired. There's nothing charming about the decor, it just looks as though they haven't been bothered to even try to make it nice. What's worse is the complete contrast of old decor with a whited out dining alcove just off from the main little area where you wait before taking your seat at your table.
We all had the 'Sunday lunch' - which wasn't much to shout about either. It wasn't very warm, the food was bland and uninventive. The staff were fairly slow to serve us too, which was a little annoying as there were long waits between servings and we were sat for a good while waiting for drinks etc after having ordered them.

Top date spot - very romantic and actually reasonably priced. Food was delicious. Would be an ideal location for an event dinner - baby shower, birthday etc as it's just so beautiful and has little secluded areas.

Always liked it at its stylish, low-key, laid-back best. Perfect place to take a date - which I was doing regularly for ten years and always found the right atmosphere - in fact it was such a cool place, I even wrote a screenplay about it - coincidentally also called Julie's Bar - drawing on some of the characters circulating within its gravitational field. (Any resemblance living or dead - purely chance!)
Staff were always great and helpful, food always pleasurably edible.
What all bars should be like.
