Always very helpful and friendly. Have taken all my animals here and have never been disappointed.

This is the first time a vet surgery has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I was gobsmacked by our vet's passive aggressive attitude and the gloomy energy shrouding this place.
* * *
While waiting for our appointment, a staff came out to the waiting area, cage in hand, and heavy handedly put the cat and the cage down.
This staff then spoke to the owner - who mouthed twice that she's deaf - all the time making no adjustment for the owner's hearing deficit.
It was apparent the owner was struggling to understand a single word. It was hard to watch.
This lack of empathy towards the animal and the customer was shocking. I don't know what's the story there; but this level of customer service (some would simply call it, respect) is not acceptable even from a kebab truck, let alone a vet surgery.
* * *
Time to see the vet - turned out she was the staff who spoke with the deaf lady before.
The consultation experience was: rushed, impersonal, money over kitten and questions not appreciated.
I've taken care of a very sick cat before, and have been to a few vets, all of them have been very good.
And today's experience at Broadlane was such a stark contrast to all those experiences, that I left the consultation room feeling very irked indeed...
Vet: "How old is the kitten? How long have you had it for?"
And then it was straight to explaining the kitten package they had.
No problem, go for the package.
She then took out a form and asked if we would sign off on a third, "unlicensed" booster vaccination. By the look of it, it was some kind of responsibility waiver form.
I thought to myself, why ask us now? We haven't even had our FIRST vaccination yet!
I turned down the booster and asked: "What kind of vaccines are these?"
I could feel the vet's sigh coming on... With a smile, she said: "Normal vaccines..."
"What kind of diseases do they protect against...?"
"The usual..." she paused, "Feline enteritis, cat flu and leukaemia..." (Not sure if I heard Chlamydia here...)
We were handed a kitten pack containing thousands of leaflets. The vet spent time walking us through ***all*** of them... And I wish I was impolite enough to stop her so that I could ask a few questions relevant to the wellbeing of my kitty, which was what I was there for in the first place...
Before I left, I asked: "When can we neuter our cat because we've got a female kitten too and we don't want her to become pregnant."
"4 to 5 months," she said, giving out information that's only a Google search away. "You have to be careful, because they will mate."
EPIC REVELATION.
I was expecting an answer more specific to our kitty... that the vet would examine the testicles, estimate when they will be fully dropped and therefore give us a rough schedule to come back for an operation.
Guess no point inquiring any further at this point. And I certainly won't have this vet perform ***any*** procedure on my cat.
My kitten is due to return in three weeks time. The only available appointment in three weeks, is a 8:40am on a Saturday morning. It would seem this surgery is too busy for a new customer anyway.
I certainly hope it will be a better experience at the second vaccination. I'll be writing an update here.

I've ruminated for a very long time whether I should publish this online. Perhaps it's been a bad day for the employees? But I think there's absolutely no excuse for my experience today.
The irony is... check the kitten package description online:

To All at broad lane vets!
On wed the 21st after coming in from shopping I realised that my springer spaniel had demolished some chocolate cookies.....He's actually never stolen food before ironically.
I rung and spoke to one of your receptionists who advised I bring him straight up. I was met by friendly staff who all reassured me I'd done right thing (I'd had a lot of text from people telling me I'd over reacted) they so kindly squeezed us in, we were seen by a lovely vet who reassured me he had not had beyond toxic dose gave him some fuss (unfortunately im sure like many he's not a fan of a vet.....he is a rescue and think he's had a bad experience in the past) this was definatly a positive experience for him. Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for been so friendly and professional, fabulous team at broad lane vets :-)

Our dog wasn't well so we took him for check at Broad Lane. We have 4 pets registered with them Vet is experienced and informative. However the reception is not good. While we waited for the bill the reception told us to take the dog back to our car presumably because she only barked a few times. Who would blame a dog barking in the vet?? Not feeling comfortable at all seeing that the receptionist doesn't even like dogs (we saw other reviewers mentioning this too so it might be worth noticing for the owner). We were planning to book appointment to spay another dog but now it seems we will have to find a new vet or at least come at a time when the receptionist isn't there!
