Sometimes the food can be reasonable. However on bad days, there seems no management control in getting the kitchen back in order. Cold fries, undercooked steaks. You can see a number of tables with grumbles. As the complaints fly in, management do almost nothing to take charge, and the same mistakes get repeated. A cold burger, promised with a replacement, returns with the same burger, but warmed up a bit.

I generally only come here to watch the footie as the only other option locally is the Lodekka and that is always full of kids who never appear to have any supervision.
The management has changed twice in the last year firstly for the better then almost back to where it was before hand.
Ale appears to only be a choice of two fairly tasteless green king options seem to be permanent fixtures London Glory or IPA ( how anything under 4% can be considered an IPA is beyond me).
There was a drinkable beer called east coast on free flow however that has had a glass over the tap for at least 10 days now.
Food is good value but comparisons between the pictures/ description in the menu and what is served may suggest the chef short serves to protect his margins.
Could be much better with attention to detail, Still the best place near by to watch the football.

Ok the place is dirty empty glass and rubbish all over the place outside.
Inside tables and menu dirty and sticky could do with a good clean.
Barmaid took our order didn't seem happy .
Food we had 2 mixed grills and to sauce the steak was really chewy, sausage was cold chips had been rewarmed and onion was soggy.
The chicken and Gammon was really nice as well as the sauce.
Shame the waitress didn't even check on how the food was.
I think this place needs a good clean and staff need need training and how to keep good standards.

I come to the castle at least once most months. The food is a quantity over quality affair, but by no means bad. Its cheap, good enough and very filling. Drinks are on the cheaper side. Nice atmosphere. The building is different to the norm. Service is considerably above average. I'm sure there's a better venue in existence, but you could do so much worse.
