Is Halo still open does anyone know? The shutters are always down, they don't answer the phone and their website says coming soon..?

I sort of semi-agree with some of the other complaints but I think this place is such good value that it deserves a higher rating. 5 quid for a good quality burger (with chips and salad) and a pint is hard to beat. It's a reasonably nice atmosphere in there (although a little poorly lit) and there's a fairly nice outside bit for when it's sunny. Staff seem friendly although on 3 occasions I've been there and the kitchens been closed. Also the owner (I think he's the owner) seems to sit right at the front doing paperwork or something sometimes which I find a bit odd but that's probs the sort of thing that doesn't bother most people, and it's certainly not a big deal.
Anyway yeah it always seems to be a very long wait for the food, which I can't really understand because even when there's nobody else in there we wait ages, but as I said if you want a cheap lunch out and you aren't supper fussy then it's definitely worth going here. The 1 star reviews seem a bit unfair.

Had bottle of Gem beer, chicken burger and cheesecake. The food is OK, nothing to seek out wrt other establishments in the area.

I went there for a wedding reception for a colleague that works with me and was looking forward to it quite a bit. Since I had a day off on the following day it would be good to celebrate that wonderful occasion in a good and condusive place.
The event - by invitation only - was a good chance to wish all the best to both the bride and groom. And will be my best chance to offer my warmest and sincerest congratulations of a happy and prosperous union.
Potentially - I'm going 'Good' on this place and may even go to 'Terrific' on it. Pity this site does not have it. Nonetheless I would.

What an appalling dining experience! My partner and I hardly ever eat out, but thought we'd treat ourselves to a brunch out and decided to give Halo a go. Wow was that a mistake! There was 1 other table in the whole place besides us - a family of 4, meaning there were a total of 6 covers in the time we were there. We ordered a full English breakfast and an Eggs Florentine. After waiting 40 minutes, we politely inquired where our food was and were told it would be another 5-10 minutes. After 50 minutes, we asked again and were told it was being plated up - only here did we get an apology from the shy but polite enough waitress. 10 minutes of plating up and we finally got our food. An entire hour!! To add insult to injury, my spinach wasn't cooked, just warm from the toast and my poached eggs were hard and served on a bed of cheap, white bread. It was disgusting but we ate it because by then we were starving. We did get our drinks taken off the bill but only because we asked - I wonder if we would even have got an apology had we not complained.
I guess only 2 tables on a Sunday lunchtime was a bit of a give away. We will never step foot in there again and we certainly will never recommend it - in fact the opposite.
