Visited the hotel quite a few times This time we went on a deal with evening meal on first night then afternoon tea the following day
I felt the room we were given was small for a double ( only 1 bedside lamp ,stained carpet, bones and debris outside on balcony, walls marked and bathroom fitting not firm on tiles) I talked to a very pleasant receptionist on the way to our excellent meal In candlelit restaurant By the time I came out a manager Miriam? came to see me and changed our room to one that we had always been used to at the Ship She offered to help move our luggage etc and gave us tokens for free drinks
I think the customer service was excellent I think a good establishment tries it’s best to make customers stay the best they can and this was done for us
I would recommend the hotel to anyone as staff from the minute you arrive at the car park till you leave are all excellent The food was very good I believe we were the first to try the winter afternoon tea which had a lovely balance of Autumn and Winter flavours and was beautifully presented
An excellent short break for my wife’s birthday and we hope to return soon

So... This is a tale of two halves, a true heaven and hell! The downstairs of the hotel; reception, bar, dining room is lovely and has been tastefully designed. Whilst the floorboards may creak and moan, you can forgive the hotel as it's an old building. Unfortunately, the bar prices seem to have jumped since last year (the hotel is now owned by a different chain too), plus the automatic service charge for drinks in the evening is simply preposterous. Then it really goes downhill... As soon as get past the first floor a sense of The Shining kicks in. The hotel has been left to waste away in the upper floors, the bedrooms are tragic, the bathrooms often dirty...in fact the whole hotel needs a good clean! They are trying to charge very highly at The Old Ship, unfortunately I keep hearing a certain Hotel Inspector's comments..... 'You can't polish a turd'!

Good location, average room, good breakfast.
Don’t ask for a late checkout. I was asked to pay £40 for two extra hours. Which I politely declined. This could be a Brighton and not hotel specific.

The hotel is in a really good location. Next to beach, places to have dinner etc. The room was pretty old but clean and comfy. Be aware of the wind on the beach. Hotel stuff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok but it would be better if they had more variety of fruit and food in general.

Booked into the The Old Ship Hotel at the weekend for our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
We had a Superb room with Sea view and
were left a lovely card and box of chocolates for our Anniversary.
The Staff were really friendly and polite.
Breakfast was Brilliant with lots of choice.
Close to all amenities and Restaurants.
Parking was a bit awkward as it was a Saturday, but we found a long stay car park a short walk away for £16 for 24 hours.
We had a lovely time and can't wait to go back.
Highly Recommended.
