Actually there's no castle now - just a little relic piece of the castle wall. (This leads to confusion for Lviv City visitors).
Within 20-30 mins walk you can reach the Castle Hill top and see the whole city from a view point.
The best tine to visit: dawn or sunset.

It's a heckova climb if you go up the back way, but it is beautiful and offers a amazing view of Lviv

A good vantage point. One can see nearly entire city from this elevation.
You have to walk all the way up and very little tourists services.

Great views of old town and the rest of the city. Beautiful walk to get there. You can also see parts of the old castle walls

If the weather is good and you have some clear sky - definitely climb The High Castle to see the panorama of Lviv. On the way, they sell some hot tea and mulled wine (yummy). I would advise to take some snacks with you and find some peaceful place on the top to eat those and enjoy the view! In the morning might be too many tourists and school excursions. Best time - 8 am - 9 am :) when the city is just waking up!
