Apparently, it got it's name because it used to be an old cemetery outside the church aeons ago. Now , it is a place where it housed also the municipal hall, the old castle turned into a hotel PARADORES , the museum and the rectory.

Santiago De Compostela is an amazing place. It's world renowned for the "El Camino", or, "The Way" of St James, which is incredible, but just as importantly it is where the bones of St. James The Apostle lie in the Cathedral dating back to 1075.

Awe and inspire factor goes off the scale. Photographic competition prize here I come. Get here early evening to see the sunset. Pilgrims, wealthy elite at the Parador, bagpipes/ violin or flute playing on the steps, tourist trains twiddling across the square, more tour groups than you can shake a stick at and... Oh yes, just look for the photogenic dog and pilgrim. AND no icecream or postcard stands ! GASP!

When you are in Santiago de Compostela there is no better thing than sit down on the pavement and relax enjoy the experience of being there and meditate a little about yourself

Very beautiful place. Amazing atmosphere. You can see joy and the success of the pilgrims ending the caminho.
