In over 40 visits to Madrid and El Ingenio it is still my favorite restaurant in Madrid. My brother first discovered it in 1997 and it immediately became our go to place because of the entrecot de cebon Gallego. (A steak you cook yourself on a red hot plate). The seafood is also top notch with the baked seabass and empereador a la plancha being stellar. Salad and soup appetizers also stand out and the house cheesecake is my favorite dessert. Try not to forget the house made liquers of which orujo blanco is my usual.
El Ingenio is a family owned place and I am lucky as they have always treated me like family. I always look forward to walking in their door when I am in Madrid. Saludos a Carmen, Carmen y Victor!

A strangely quaint restaurant. A small family business by appearance. Cosy and comfortable. Reasonably priced.

This is a superb restaurant - I live here and it's my favourite. The design is small and charming, and the people working here couldn't be nicer: but they are not annoying or obsequious.

The lady who served us was warm, friendly and helpful without being intrusive or over attentive. The surroundings were attractive and slightly quirky ( in an interesting way). The food was very well cooked, tasted delicious and was not in overwhelming portions! We started with one of the soup/ stews(the Asturian fabada was delicious) followed by a main course that did not leave you feeling stuffed. Thank goodness because it meant we could enjoy a gorgeous dessert. Try the creme brûlée. Fantastic. We had a lovely evening. The fact we were surrounded by madrilenos tells you a lot!
