Perfect location, nice view. Actually the hotel is quite tired, rooms need to be renovated. But it still good place to stay.

The location couldn't be better for the city: across the street from a scenic pedestrian area with views of the Volga. But I totally agree with the reviewers who say the hotel itself is "back in the USSR". The staff do speak some English, but you know this signature feeling that you're a temporary nuisance for them? When serving coffee breaks for a conference they won't open the dining area until you ask them specifically (so you wouldn't touch anything), give your group a small corner of the buffet table and cover everything else with cloths (so you wouldn't touch anything). Open your conference room at 10am sharp if the meeting is scheduled for 10 (so you wouldn't touch anything). The cleaning lady will give you a stare that says "I just cleaned this bathroom, don't you spoil it". Staff totally freeze and start mumbling 'dunno, it takes time' when you try to order something not included in the business lunch of the local restaurant. Freeze even more if you ask to make something without meat and bring you salad from lunch for dinner (withered and gross). On weekdays, they apparently only refill breakfast trays at 7 and 8, not when they're empty (because who cares about guests when they are so few). Then you just go to Oblomoff next door: it's a nice place with local prices. After a nice 9 am walk before work I was returning to my room, and the security guard ran after me to stop the elevator demanding that I show him the key to prove I'm a guest. (Apparently, because I'm a woman. Otherwise nothing was possibly odd in my appearance.) Bar staff don't know about a dinner party reserved for 5 pm - "we usually start our dinners at 6... but we'll ask...(couple mins) ok, you can sit down, we'll feed you". Administrators don't know about a conference room booked (though there's a sign on it). You want to get a coffee during a conference lunch, waiters are out and won't come if you call for 5 mins. You pour it yourself from a coffee machine, and they come running to its buzz, angry: this is not the coffee you must get, this is paid coffee. No, take it now that you've poured it! All in all, you're gonna love the Volga/Sviyaga view, but the 'hospitality' workers will do their best to spoil the good impression.
