The place is decent with good wi fi. Drawbacks are cold showers, spotty management and cleanliness.

I am very disappointed in this hostel. I stayed at the Iguana hostel in Oaxaca, Mexico and I had an awesome time. So when I had a bad experience at the Iguana hostel in San Cristobal, Mexico I was really upset.
First off, this hostel has bed bugs and bad! I was attacked two nights in a row where I have massive bites on the back of my neck, my feet, both my arms, and my face. At first I thought it was just Mosquitoes, which is common here in Mexico. But, after the second night, I woke the next morning with bites all across my neck in a line. Which usually means it's bed bugs.
As I went to speak with someone at the front desk, the hostel staff was bug bombing the room next door to my room. So, I asked them if they were killing bed bugs and they said yes. So, I showed them my bites and they reacted very quickly. They took my bed apart and cleaned it, then sprayed the area. I went to go out for lunch and I come back around 4:00pm. Ricardo says, "Emily your bed is ready. We did find 5 Mexican bed bugs in your bed. Unfortunately this happens with people coming and going from the Jungle." So I responded with kindness and agreed. I never complain as I understand it's a hostel. This is my 15th hostel as I traveled for 10 months now. So, I went to checkout my bed for a little power nap. I wake up an hour later from my nap with two new bed bug bites on my face!!!!!!!!!
At this point I am frustrated! I went to the front desk and I kindly asked for a refund because this is absolutely ridiculous. They told me it was clean, and sprayed the area but, I was still being attacked by bed bugs. I went to speak with the woman at the front desk and she was not helpful at all. She wouldn't give me a refund for my stay and only 1 night free. Then she said all of the other beds were full and tried shipping me off to a different hostel. But, finally she put me in the volunteer room just for my last night.
Her argument was, "Well, it's a hostel. People come and go from all over the world. People travel to the jungle and bring back things. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a full refund but, a free night stay."
This is absolutely unacceptable!! The fact the hostel does not keep up to date with the cleaning, as that should be the number one priority is maintenance. Its NO EXCUSE TO NOT KEEP THE ROOMS CLEAN. It doesn't matter if people come and go! It's the hostels responbility to keep everything clean! The beds were digusting and the kitchen was also digusting. The only clean areas I thought were the bathrooms and I would have rather sleep in there. I have been traveling for 10 months Scandinavian, Europe, USA, Canada, and Mexico. NOT ONCE DID I EVER GET BED BUGS UNTIL THE IGUANA HOSTEL IN San Cristobal de la Casa, Mexico.
I do NOT recommend staying there as the hostel was not described in the Hostel World APP or website.

Clean, friendly, and secure hostel. The travelers coming through are mostly Australian and European and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They will arrange tours, give you directions, and provide great advice on local eateries and nightlife. We stayed here for 5 days and were very happy. Keep in mind it's very cool and a little damp in this region, so expect daily highs of ~70 degrees F to ~30 degrees F at night - and that was during the first week of September.

Great cheap place to lay your head for the night. Staff were incredibly helpful with organised tours and shuttles, cooking a delicious breakfast. However there is only 1 shower between the whole hostel and the rooms are a bit dirty. The place needs a bit of a update and clean, but maintains its own charm. Safe and fun place to chill though!
