Terrible hotel. The rooms smell. Our bathroom has an insidious smell of mould. Our friends room smells so strongly of paint they can't breathe. In the middle of the night there was a huge commotion that woke me at 3am. One night in. I'll update if it gets better or worse. Don't book!
Update: after being forced to sleep in a room that made them woozy, our friends changed rooms. Our bathroom still smells. And now we have Cockroaches.
Further update: my girlfriend scolded herself in the shower as the temperature is entirely inconsistent. The breakfast coffee is also terrible.

Breakfast staff were really sweet and attentive. Unfortunately this is about the only really POSITIVE thing I can say about this hotel. I understand it's relatively cheap, and unfortunately you get what you pay for. Once again, NOTHING AGAINST THE STAFF, but this hotel was pretty bad. The room just always seemed dirty, especially the bathroom which had a horrible mildew-y smell. The water in the toilet was constantly running and never fixed. The wifi wasn't abysmal, but it worked when it did, and didn't when it didn't. The pool was nice. I wouldn't stay here again, but not particularly because of anyone's fault. Oh and one of the beds sunk in the middle, HORRIBLY, and therefore provided the worst sleep I'd ever had.

For the price (US $30 per night) I really can't complain. However, I was traveling for work and the wifi was very slow and sometimes wouldn't work at all. The shower 🚿 was uncomfortable/borderline dangerous (slippery tile with no mat), the air conditioner stopped working the first night but the staff was very attentive to fix it the next day. It was a little off the beaten path but I always felt safe and even walked to the zoo one day (about 20 minutes away by foot). Highly recommend visiting the zoo if you are in Merida. It's free and you really get to see the animals up close!

Made a reservation same afternoon on AirBnB which was accepted, but when we arrived they siad they had no space. Staff was friendly and apologetic for the mistake. Beautiful hotel. Seemed clean and well appointed.
