At Evis at the Bologna airport, I was charged for an extra insurance fee when I said that I was not interested. I was signed on a tablet document. I could not see the entire document, and I asked what I was signing, was told that this was a normal procedure for renting a car. It was only when I got home that I discovered that they had charged me 154 euros for an additional insurance. I have never been deceived by any rental company around the world, not even in Avis.

Fiat Qubo

The pick-up of our car was a pleasant surprise as we had been upgraded from the minimum class type vehicle to a Fiat Qubo which was spacious enough for three adults and luggage. However, there were more marks and scrapes on the car as indicated on the paperwork which we were unable to mention to staff as we had to walk for 10-15 mins to the car park from the Avis desk. Luckily we had the foresight to take photos of the exterior/interior and fuel/mileage gauge before we set off (and likewise upon our return).

The drop-off was not so pleasant! We had not been told/shown upon our collection where to return the car only having been given the Car Park and Bay number. There were no clear signs for the Avis car park upon our return and because Car Park 3 was full we were unable to enter what we believed to be the Avis car park.

No paper map was provided by staff upon collection of the vehicle or any spoken information provided at this time either.

Our only option was to park the car in Car Par 2 to which the Avis member of staff informed us we would be charged for the length of time that the car would be parked there as they weren't able to move it straight away.

Let me make this very clear to Avis!!! If you charge us for any parking fees or any other unauthorised fees due to negligence of providing satisfactory information spoken/written or otherwise I will hit Avis with a massive Litigation suit as I am sure we are not the only customers been caught out in this way!

We also had to pay three times the cost for our vehicle as this was the only car rental company who accepts direct debit cards as opposed to credit cards.

Very very poor customer service!!!

Tried calling them for half an hour to explore options for a delayed flight affecting pick up time- it kept ringing whilst no one picked up. At some point the line went 'busy' then back to ringing. The worst.

Never hire a car from Avis. They don't care about your safety or the safety of your family. They would not instal a car seat for our 10 month old son, nor did they have any instructions for installation. Most of the car seats were wet as they were left outside in the rain plus we didn't get the car we opted to hire but it was so late we had not choice but to take what they had. Appalling service and terrible experience.

Be very careful at what they are telling you when you rent the car. It was the worst experience with a rental company that I have ever encountered. I absolutely recommend to take photos and videos of the car at the time of the pick-up and notify them to mark the differences on your rental agreement. They have already fooled me considering that I was responsible for a scratch and they charged me as well. I have received a car which had been badly damaged all over its bodywork. All of this for a considerable amount of money. I absolutely not recommend AVIS anymore.
