Top notch food at reasonable prices with great presentation, welcoming ambience and good service. We received a free small appetiser and bread selection as well!

I’ve never been so worried and impressed about a restaurant in my life!
Myself and my girlfriend were looking for a cheap and cheerful place to eat on a short break at home in Ireland when we came across The West End Restaurant on Yelp, Tripadvisor & Google. Looked nice, good reviews, happy days.
We rang for an early reservation and the gentleman on the phone sounded friendly and fairly relaxed about the whole thing.
We decided to leave a little early as we knew the restaurant was a small walk and we could stop for a drink on the way. However we quickly found ourselves on the doorstep on the restaurant without passing a single pub.
It looked nice and quaint on the outside, well kept small garden area at the front with a small smoking area just out of view.
As we entered, it looked like a small converted house. Met first by a typical hallway & stairs, then bar area and two or three other dining areas all nicely decorated, lovely smells in the air and the sounds of conversation.
We were greeted by the host/owner and shown to our table after a quick debate about whether or not to have that pre-dinner drink we wanted!
It was when we got to the table that I started to panic! I was noticing the Newbridge Silverwear on all the tables, other customers drinking food from shot glasses and eating off pieces of state and other fantastic pieces of plates and dishes! As if that wasn’t enough, a fantastic French waiter arrived to take a drinks order while I was looking in my wallet to see if I could cover all of this lavishness!! I really thought we had stumbled into a Heston Blumenthal restaurant having confused the shot glasses for the complimentary amuse bouches.
I only stated to calm down when the other waiter on the night delivered the bread, Kerrygold Real Butter and delicious homemade hummus. This lad was a much more down to earth, local and I imagine, lovable rogue!
From then on, I really enjoyed the evening. The food was to die for, good size portions, cooked to perfection and excellent attention from all the staff.
As we got up to pay the bill I noticed a vegetable garden out the back window, I don’t think you can get a lot fresher than that??
A nice touch as we left was the host offered to ring us a taxi back into town, but thankfully it was one of the few nice summers evenings and the walk was welcome after such a meal. He also told us about a couple of really nice places for a drink and a bit of craic since it was still quite early.
I can’t wait for my next trip to Killarney, any excuse to come back to The West End Restaurant!!
Thanks for a great evening Guys,
D.
