Maharaja Harishchandra P. G. College was established in 1973 with a vision to provide higher education to the poor and weaker students of the society. Dr. Brij Pal Saran, who laid its foundation, was the first Principal. With his untiring efforts, hard work and devotion, he made contribution in its progress to the extent that he got appreciation from Dr. M. C. Reddy, the then Honourable Chancellor and the Governor of the state. After his retirement, Dr. V. A. Gemini who proved himself to be a successful administrator succeeded in introducing various courses during his tenure. Mr. Suraj Bhan, the then Honourable Chancellor and the Governor who came to unveil the statue of the founder Principal Dr. B. P. S. Rastogi patted him for his efforts for its progress. After Dr. Gemini, Dr. Pradeep Johari and Dr. Anil Rastogi also worked for the progress of the college. Presently, Prof. Harbansh Dixit is the Principal of the college. He is dynamic, optimistic and creative and is determined to devote himself whole-heartedly with his team for the progress of the institution. The institution aims at offering the quality education to the students along with their personality development through various social schemes so that they may prove themselves as the useful and fruitful citizen for the betterment of the society. The college is approved by the UGC under sections 2 (f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act and affiliated to the M. J. P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. It offers Graduate Courses in General Hindi / General English, Hindi Literature, English Literature, Sociology, Economics, Drawing & Painting, Urdu and Philosophy and Postgraduate Courses in Hindi, Urdu, English and Drawing & Painting. It provides a unique educational environment for the students with its own administrative building, playground, well-equipped library, laboratories, audio-visual equipments, recreational facilities, career counseling cell, computer labs etc.
