Excellent place to see an assortment of old ships up close. The place is staffed by friendly volunteers and admission costs to the larger boats are nominal. We had the fortune of seeing the ice breaker Stettin being fired up for a cruise by the volunteer crew. During summer months a full schedule of excursions exists and can be booked by anyone interested.
Small titbit of info: at full speed one ton of coal gets shoveled into the boilers by hand every hour. How is that for a workout.

Great place with lots of restaurants / outdoor drinks. Views across the Elbe to the harbour. On summer evenings a great spot but very popular and can get crowded.

Small and simple, but the sail fish ships are well maintained and interesting to explore also from the inside.

This isn't your typical museum because it doesn’t really have a building. It’s actually made up of about 20 old boats that have been restored and then moored together on the bank of the Elbe River. Most of the boats are from the period between 1880 and 1960 and played an important role in the functioning of the port – tug boats and barges, for instance. Many of the ships were found as wrecks and it took a long time to restore them.

A must-see in Hamburg for anyone interested in Maritime History. All types represented - sail, steam and diesel. Had a tour of the icebreaker Stettin and the steam tug Tiger. It was a wonderful day out.
