This is the image that many visitors associate with the Main metropolis. But the city in the heart of Germany and Europe can offer many other facets and contrasting variety. Near to the skyscrapers you can find cosy Ebbelwei pubs and at the heart of the bustling city centre you can find historical sights again and again. Frankfurt is not just proud of its most famous son, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The Kaiserdom (Cathedral) and the Paulskirche, the cradle of German democracy, are also to be found here. Interesting destinations for excursions in and around Frankfurt turn your stay into a great experience and you will love to come back. Cultura Thanks to its varied and comprehensive cultural offering, Frankfurt am Main enjoys an excellent reputation at both the national and international level. The highlights of the Frankfurt cultural scene undoubtedly include the ‘Museumsufer’, where 11 well-known museums are lined up like a string of pearls on both sides of the Main. Around 50 other museums and exhibition halls, including, for example, the Schirn Kunsthalle, are situated in the immediate vicinity or in a central location. Shopping As a relatively prosperous city, Frankfurt is well supplied with shopping possibilities – everything from large department stores to small, specialist handicrafts shops can be found in the city. The pedestrian street, Zeil (from Hauptwache to Konstablerwache), is the city's major shopping street and is lined with well-known department stores, including the super-modern Zeilgalerie, Zeil 112-114, with approximately 50 shops, a number of eateries, an aqua spa, and tremendous views from the roof terrace. The largest shopping centres in Frankfurt are the Nordwest Zentrum, Walter-Möller-Platz 2, and Schillerpassage, Rahmhofstrasse 2. Others are the Hessen Centre, Borsigallee 26, the Neu-Isenburg-Zentrum, Hermesstrasse 4, and the Main-Taunus-Zentrum in Sulzbach. Guten Appetit!   Sights Those who set out on a discovery tour of Frankfurt can easily reach many of the sites on foot or by bus and train. Many attractions are not very far from one another in the city centre, as our virtual city tour shows. And with public transport, you can quickly reach further sights such as the Palm Garden and the Zoo. A city tour with the nostalgic tram, the ‘Ebbelwei Express’ is particularly popular. And culture lovers will find an impressive selection of renowned museums on both banks of the Main.
