Checkin experience was a nightmare. We checked in at around 2am, was told our room was damaged and we need to move to another hotel. We were promised a room exactly the same as one booked (comfort double room with two beds and one sofa bed). The reception staff kept lying to us, saying that the taxi will arrive in 5-10 mins, that it will be paid, etc. In the end, we had to wait half an hour, and the taxi driver didn't even know where to go, and we had to call the hotel again to make sure he was paid by them.
Finally we arrive in our room, and it is clearly a single bedroom with only one bed, one towel, one pillow, etc. Reception staff is agaij extremely rude and refuses to believe it is a single room until we force her to come and see for herself, wasting valuable time in an already short night. She then forces us to sleep on a single bed by giving us more pillows and bedsheets. At that point we relunctantly accept because we were too tired to change hotel (already 4am!!!).
The rest of the stay was however perfect, we were able to move back to the original hotel, get the room we requested, etc .
However we cannot recommend this hotel due to the extremely rude woman who was working the reception in the night of October 26 to 27, 2017. She most likely need to be fired or disciplined for her unprofessional behavior.

You call the hotel by phone when you arrive, then you are given a code to enter at the hotel. With this code you can open a little safe and receive the card that opens your room. There is no reception or bar or anything like that. Only a cleaning lady comes by for about 2-3 hours a day. The rooms are quite pretty and you won't be disturbed.

It is a kind of self service hotel close to the center of Essen. The floors are smelling fairly ugly and it is not a pleasant atmosphere at all. The rooms are surprisingly good in terms of size and infrastructure / furnitures.

Nice apart hotel close to Essen main station. Good for groups of 3 or 4 people, a bit too pricey for two persons only.
