Bargain hunters are pleased that the prices are compared to other European capitals extremely moderate. Tourism In the ancient world Pergamon was a dazzling city. As the residence of powerful kings, Pergamon was a genuine metropolis possessing an almost modern infrastructure with its streets, market places, library, theatre and gymnasium. But what would daily life actually have been like for the people living there? This question is answered in the exhibition Pergamon. Panorama der antiken Metropole (Pergamon: Panorama of the Antique Metropolis), which will take you on a journey back in time to the year 129 AD. Here you will hear, see and relive a day in Pergamon from sunrise to sunset thanks to a 360 degree panorama, designed by the artist Yadegar Asisi and comprising 24 metres (80 ft) in height and 103 metres (340 ft) in length, which has been set up in the forecourt of the Pergamon Museum on Museum Island. This living panorama is the perfect starting point for the exhibition itself in the Pergamon Museum, which presents the first large-scale complete view of the antique metropolis. Cultura At the centre of the dark 20th-century history, Berlin has gradually evolved and earned its reputation as a leading European city with its high art scene and dynamic, cutting-edge performances. The city has always impressed with the diversity of its numerous museums, palaces and historic structures. Berlin's landmarks reminding of the city's royal history, coupled with the multitude of its cultural venues including the world-famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, provide a remarkable cultural treat. Sights Berlin is famous for many things. The Brandenburg Gate. The Reichstag. The Berlin Wall. John F. Kennedy's famous speech, where he declared Ich bin ein Berliner. Trabbis. Kaiser Wilhelm. The list is endless. Cost All up, three days in Berlin came in at 175. 5 Euro or 265. 07 AUD (at an exchange rate of 1 Euro = 0. 68 AUD). This averaged out to just on 58. 5 euros a day. Well under my planned expenditure of 75 euro per day. I never once stopped myself buying something or felt like I was holding back here either. <br /> To compare the costs to today’s exchange rate, leaving <a href="http://www.reisebok.com/reise/no/australia/all_about_australia/travel_agencies.html" style="color: #0A76BE; text-decoration: underline;"><b>Australia</b></a> now (January 2011) it would have cost you $234 AUD with the current rate of 1 Euro = 0. 75 AUD. <br /> Like Paris, Berlin sucked me right in, so even with the rain slowing me down I didn’t care. The graffiti scattered across the city is amazing to see, there is a bucket load of history to take in and if you are so inclined you’ll also find dance clubs raging all night long. <br /> Originally I intended to stay longer in Berlin for all of the above reasons. Unfortunately that meant finding yet another hostel to stay in (was only two free days at my second hostel) and possibly missing out on catching up with another travel blogging friend who was going to meet me in Copenhagen. <br /> The upside to missing out on staying longer is I can now go back again knowing how to get around and where to stay, I can hit the ground running so to speak.
