This gallery in Perpignan is named after the eminent 20th century cultural theorist Walter Benjamin. The ground floor entrance doesn't inspire confidence; it is in a dingy stairwell that you buy your tickets, but inside is 2 floors of galleries with interesting and challenging contemporary art, mostly European artists. When I went there was an interesting exhibition on the nature of power, with plenty to see and think about. The ticket also gets you in to the modern art gallery in Coullioure, but we didn't have time to visit. It's not the biggest gallery, nor the showiest, but well worth a look if you're in the area.
