The owner is very nice though she doesn't speak english. The room was clean with a comfortable matress and blankets. The location is perfect, right across the artisan market and close to all the tourist attractions downtown. Downsides were that there is no parking and you can't leave your car in the street so that was an extra 6$ a day for a paid parking close by, and you can hear cars and trucks honking really loud in the evening and in the morning which can wake you if you're a light sleeper, but it wasn't an issue for us.

For its price ok, but loud trains and streets nearby. A friendly dog and keeper, but all in all cheap.

If you're looking for a cheap Hostel in San José you should come here. It's close to the city, the rooms are clean, as are the baths. Patrick, the owner, is a Swiss dude who is glad to help you out with almost anything. He can tell you where buses leave, how to get to different places in Costa Rica, where to go best at whatever time of the year, recommend bars or restaurants,...
There's a train driving past the hostel but I always slept through it and I've stayed there for 6 nights in total.
