Save yourself. Seriously, save yourself. Before you book, read the TripAdvisor reviews. I wish I did before booking this hotel. There were long strands of hair and large stains on the bed sheets, mold all over the bathroom, and strong odor of smoke and air freshner that made the room completely unlivable. We documented the conditions in the room and checked out within 15 min of checking in.

This hotel deserves a higher rating. It may be a little old but everything is in order. Location is excellent, full view of the Drum Tower (beautifully illuminated at night). Our rooms are very big.

This is a really old hotel. Most hotels in China you should avoid drinking the water. This is the first hotel that we have seen with a warning on the bathroom mirror to not drink the water. I think maybe that there is a lead problem so we brushed or teeth then rinsed our mouths with bottled water.
Don't count on this hotel room getting cool at night. Take a really cold shower and the AC will feel better.
If you are here you probably want to go to the soldiers. CITS is your best bet for getting there. We love our Wendy.

This hotel is well situated for local site visiting. the hotel itself is a little tired but still okay. we had to pull our own luggage around as we found the concierge's all over China were very unhelpful to non Chinese tourists. We were given a nice room that looked out over the bell tower which is illuminated at night. Just watching the traffic was great entertainment as there appears to be no rules. Windows were very good and the sound was minimal at night. Room service was good and the rooms were well looked after. Our only moan if you like is the local tourist still smoke in the designated No Smoking areas and staff do nothing to prevent it. A ten minute walk from the hotel via the tunnels under the tower round about are the street markets and some amazing people and food. We went both day and night it was a great experience and one not to miss when in Xian. We got some great bargains in the markets and you can haggle!
