I spent the first 18 years of my life around this park, as I attended elementary school, middle school, and high school nearby in the 90s and 00s. As a child it was the place to boat, to walk, to picnic, to do scavenging, and to catch tadpoles (and raise them up, until they were mature enough to be returned to the lakes, as frogs). It is also a very lovely place for long-distance running/jogging, (which I did as a teenager for about 5 years,) and for practicing musical instruments and singing. From my remote memory, I recall how much I was envious of those retirees' life ---as they always populated the park, and could spend quite awhile there (while I had to go back to my school work). Several pavilions here are modeled on and named after some more well-known pavilions in other provinces, but I never feel they are fake --- rather, the park seems to me like a (mini) Pavilion Museum. And above all, the memory is always there, as humble and authentic as it was.

Don't know why there is a one star review... As you know, Tao Ran Ting (陶然亭) is a park that every 80s Xuanwu child would never forget. When I was young, I usually went to this park, the best part would be the big snow mountain(大雪山). There are lots of my child memories here. Although, there become more and more commercialized, I think it is still a good place to play or take a walk. Pick a sunny day, go there with your friends, walk around the lake will be a good choice.
