I attended the "WIZDOM" Exhibition Opening by Melbourne-based artist Lucas GROGAN - last night (July 24th) at the Martin Browne Contemporary Gallery just along from the Vic Trumper Oval. There were two exhibitions opening at the same time - it made for a lively crowd. Lucas GROGAN is a genius of the distortions and patterns of the soul reflected into the cosmos. His style shifts according to mood - which the viewer absorbs and examines - following the flowing and sinewy patterning. And in a lot of his work - much of which is in shades of blues and whites - the face - of haunting-eyed multiplicity - seems to ask for some explanation. What is this life? I particularly like Lucas GROGAN's ability to include - in some of his work - cartoon-like speech 'bubbles' with semi-philosophical commentary. [I was going to say; Go to Hell ... But I see you have brought it with you.] It appears that the National Gallery has interest in one of the pieces in this exhibition. Bravo, Lucas! Bravo NGA! And bravo MBCGallery
(One of the Gallery Curators with whom I spoke was originally from the South Island of NZ. I wanted to mention the name of an artist friend from Nelson: Errol SHAW.)
