Having been a great devotee of Debenhams when residing in the UK, with attention to their women's clothing lines, handbags and scarves, I was very keen to dip my toes into the waters of the new Melbourne store. I wasn't disappointed; some of my favourite UK clothing labels were there, as well as dedicated Debenhams designs. I really like the ambience of this store, particularly the light, white decor, which is very functional for a 'basement' location. I hope that Debenhams continues to expand in Melbourne, with greater store space and stock. A good start!

This place got recently renovated. Looks pretty awesome now but is often quite empty

Flashy (on the surface), but looks like a way to milk the retailers for rental cash. I would have given it a 5, ...BUT it lacks the intricate detail and design charm found in The Royal Arcade and The Block Arcade. If the spent more on better design - rather than flat plane glass it shows a lost opportunity to be something. Maybe the barbed the designer? Who knows, I hope they can fix it up one day to be special.

The new St Collins Lane is definitely an upgrade on the former Australia on Collins which was looking very tired. The shopping destination has been beautifully designed to a very high standard with a lot of light and some interesting art installations. Nearly six months after their soft launch, many of tenants have yet to move in yet. but what is there is interesting and original for Melbourne. Tag Heuer and Neil Perry's Burger Project are probably the two most well known at this stage.
