The palace hostel is nice for ONE night. The Fraser island tour is expensive when you compare it to the accommodation and food. Because there is always to less food and the menu is every day the same! Take also your pillow from the hostel with you, because at Fraser there is none. You will sleep on the ground, after ONE night you will definitely have a back injury.
About the food; when the tour has been finished you will lose 4 kilograms, because you're living the whole day on ONE crob salad (with sand in it). When you're at Hervey Bay again you must visit a dentist, because of the sand.
Liquor; this is also a huge problem on Fraser, its very expensive and you can't get pissed of it.
Driving the 4x4; the cars are from the 40's, no cruise control, no chair heaters, no airconditioning (well it was there but not working). Also the speed limit is every where 15 km/h.
Conclusion: don't book this tour you will regret it.

Above standard hostel. Helpful staff. Located right next to a Spar, a bottle shop, and bakery. Only negative I can come up with is that the WIFI is very sketchy and doesn't reach beyond the lobby - so no browsing images of cats in your bunk bed.

Excellent hostel ,friendly staff, clean & safe. We also booked the Fraser 4x4 Safari. We had a blast - Our guide was Chris - He was a legend!

An okay-ish hostel, primarily use for stop-over for Fraser Island tours. Some dorms fairly small, although all are comfortable as well as showers and kitchen but can get busy once all tour groups start their food prep

Nice clean hostel with friendly staff. Computers, laundry, lockers, well equipped kitchen, etc. Bathroom in room as well as extra in the common area. Location is good, Wifi is good, can book tours and such here as well.
