Thank you for making our first Australian trip amazing. My husband and I live in Alaska, United States, so I was concerned when renting a vehicle. You answered ALL my questions. When we picked up the vehicle, it was in excellent condition. Brett was quite helpful. He reviewed the vehicle and equipment with us. THANK YOU BRETT!!! We traveled over 7,000 km to see the Northern Territory. The remote campsites were perfect for us, and because of the 4 wheel drive, we were able to see Australia and meet the Australian people. We stayed in a different campsite every night for 15 nights. The tent on top of the vehicle was so easy to set up each night. And the rain came for 3 of those nights with heavy winds - not a single drop in the tent. We were so impressed!!! The refrigerator was ideal because it allowed us to go for days without visiting a grocery store. I love picnics and each day we would find a remote area for my picnic. One of the picnics was at Old Andado Station. SMILES!!! We also visited many historical sites and learned a bit about your history. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! Our deposit was returned within in 3 days. And my husband was impressed with the gas mileage. He said it was good!!!! We will return to Australia and will be contacting your company again.

Thanks for processing the security bond so quickly. We had a fabulous trip and the Australian 4WD Hire Prado didn’t miss a beat.
It was perfect for travelling around the Pilbara and Kimberly both on and off road. We did just over 10,500kms in 34 days.
The Australian 4WD Hire staff were always available and helpful whenever we needed to contact them.
Would recommend you guys to anyone thinking of doing a similar kind of road trip.

An honest review of our experience with Australian 4wd Hire on our 5 day trip into Kakadu NT August 2017.
I say honest, because it was definitely a mixed bag, some parts good, some less than good. So to be fair I’ll give equal time to the good stuff.
* Service and communication in booking - 10/10 – Easy and clear
* Handover in Darwin (at JJ Car Hire, agents for Aust. 4wd Hire) – 10/10 – Friendly and helpful
* The vehicle part 1 – We were given an alternative car to our original booking due to an incident with the car allocated to us. Suitability of the replacement 10/10
* The vehicle part 2 – The air con was not working, no other replacement vehicle was made available – 1/10
* Service and communication after pick up – 1/10 – Neither us nor the agent was made aware of the problem with the air con prior to us realizing within 15 mins of pick up.
Being Darwin, parts can be hard to get, so the air con problem was known to the company well before the day of pick up, yet we were not informed of this at all.
We would have liked to be made a aware a few days in advance so we could have tried to get another car from another company.
We were offered a “take or leave it” choice of a full refund, or take the car as is.
We took the car as it was a public holiday, and we could not arrange another car from a different company.
We felt our complaint was handled poorly, and we did not feel heard at all.
Ultimately we were offered and paid $100 refund.
* Reliability and suitability of the car – 6/10 – The car itself was fine, enough room, drove ok, had good tires etc. Being a hire car in tough conditions, you don’t expect a spotless limo. So apart from the lack of air con, there were no other no problems to speak of.
* Camping equipment supplied – 6/10 – Overall the gear was as good as you’d expect hire gear to be, overall clean and functional albeit used (the NT is hard on gear)
The tent had one full mesh panel completely cut out, so we had to have that door shut all the time, and we were not supplied with small poles to prop the windows open, so that was a little annoying in the heat of the NT, hence the slightly lower mark here
* Service and communication after pick up – 1/10 – We had to chase up the $100 refund that was promised, as it was not paid at the time of the bond return.
We feel like communication after our experience has been apathetic, and at no point has anyone made an effort to offer a sincere apology.
A simple phone call from someone would have gone a long way to change the whole feel of the communication we had.
* Overall experience – 5/10 – We had a great holiday, and we aren’t so precious as to let a thing like a hot car trip spoil our time away, but I feel it could have been handled much better.
If we had been advised early of the air con problem, I’d have been very grateful and considered that GREAT service, if I could not get a replacement I’d have taken the car without air con, and felt satisfied that we were treated in the best way.
Because we were not told at all, and left with no choice on a public holiday, we felt like we’d been held over a barrel and it left a bitter taste.
It is very, very easy to offer “good service” when everything is going well, and everything is working well.
The true indicator of “GREAT service” , is what a company does when something goes wrong. We feel like there is a lot of work to be done in this area.

Thanks so much Australian 4WD Hire for helping us to have a fuss free holiday, clean & reliable 4WD with all the necessary camping equipment we required due to flying into Darwin. Also thanks for a very quick return of our bond money which was back in our account almost immediately without any issues. Very happy customer & would definitely recommend.

We needed to hire a 4x4 to drive The Gibb River Rd in The Kimberley. After doing our research we decided to grab a 2.8L turbo diesel Toyota Hilux from Australian 4WD Hire. The rig came kitted out with all the camping and 4x4 gear you could possibly need. Ours had all the bells and whistles, including a TJM awning and rooftop tent, camping chairs, table, stove, jerry cans, first aid kit, recovery kit and detailed Hema maps. To take on the corrugations it has an upgraded suspension system and all-terrain tyres. The trip went perfectly to plan and the car ran beautifully. We couldn't recommend Australian 4WD Hire highly enough.
